RCMosquito

Hello there!

This site provides research and info recording my build of a 40" radio-controlled Mosquito bomber. I built it over a year from January 2007 in order to keep sane, and escape the pressures of my job!

The bomber

The particular bomber I modelled was a B MKIV Series II DK296/GB G from 105 Sqn. No. 2 Group, flown by Flt Lt D A G 'George' Parry DFC and Flg Off V Robson in June 1942.

The model

The model was converted to RC from an electric free-flight or rubber powered model kit from Dare Designs in the USA and designed by Mike Midkiff. The wingspan is 40 inches, or 1/16 scale.

I converted it to 6-channel RC, with rudder, elevator, ailerons, undercarriage and speed controller, plus wing lights. With a much bigger all-up weight, I changed the motors to 280 size brushed, with one 2-cell LiPo battery. After a test-flight (and crash) in October 2007 - I spent a happy winter fixing it, finishing it and fitting more powerful brushless motors!

Micro servos were used throughout, except for the undercarriage, though for the flight testing the u/c at first was left down and no u/c servos were used to save weight.

I'm now waiting for a warm, dry, windless day - and - some long grass to fly over...! (watch this space...)

Ha! -got it outside ready to go, but, no - too windy. Its been windy all year it seems...
